Instagram Unveils a New Camera Design, ‘Create Mode’, And More

Today is a busy day for Facebook and its own properties. The company is kicking off its official developers conference, F8, and with it announcing a plethora of new changes. Instagram, for instance, is seeing some important tweaks.

The social network has officially announced today several changes and new additions, including a brand new camera design, a new “Create Mode”, and much more. First up, a new camera and Create Mode, which is pictured above. Instagram says that in “the coming weeks”, it will introduce a brand new camera design that will make it even easier to use creative tools, like effects, in a shared post. Create Mode, meanwhile, is meant to make it easier to share content that isn’t reliant on a photo or video.

The new camera design and Create Mode will launch globally soon.

Instagram is also launching a new Donation Sticker. This will be available starting today in the United States. This will make it possible for Instagram users to raise money for a nonprofit right within Stories.

“To use this new feature, open the camera, take or upload a photo, tap the sticker icon and select the donation sticker from the tray. Choose a nonprofit to support and customize your fundraiser using creative tools. Once it’s live, swipe up on your story to view the total amount raised. 100% of the money you raise on Instagram goes to the nonprofit you are supporting.”

That’s not all, though. Instagram is a way for influencers and celebrities and companies to sell goods. And now the social network is making it easier to buy those items:

“Starting next week, you can shop inspiring looks from the creators you love without leaving Instagram. Instead of taking a screenshot or asking for product details in comments or Direct, you can simply tap to see exactly what your favorite creators are wearing and buy it on the spot.”

In addition to these changes to Instagram, Facebook also confirmed separately that the Facebook app proper is getting redesigned, and that the future is privacy focused.Sponsor ads:

2019 iPhone 11 Detailed CAD Rendering Reveals Single Glass Back Including Camera Bump

Leaked renders have already given us a glimpse at how the iPhone 11 will look like with a triple camera setup at the rear. Today, @Onleaks has shared 3D CAD renderings of the iPhone 11 which show the device from all possible angles.

The renderings and video don’t reveal anything new per se. The 2019 iPhone 11 is going to feature the same design language as the iPhone X and iPhone XS before it. At the rear, it will pack a triple-camera setup which includes the addition of a new ultra-wide angle sensor. A reliable analyst believes that Apple will be sourcing this 12MP 1.0um sensor from Sony.

The CAD renderings point to the iPhone 11 having a 7.8mm thickness which if true would make it just a wee bit thicker than the iPhone X and iPhone XS (7.7mm).

The leak also points to the iPhone 11 featuring a single slab of glass. This is unlike the iPhone X/XS series in which the rear glass has a cutout for the camera module.

Apart from the triple camera setup at the rear, leaks and rumors point to the iPhone 11 coming with wireless reverse charging, faster A-series processor, a higher resolution 12MP camera at the front, and more. The phone will also come with a bigger battery to ensure that the reverse wireless charging feature does not have too much of a negative impact on battery life. Apple will also switch to a frosted glass panel at the rear which should help ensure the design does not feel too dated.
Our Take

It is clear that the 2019 iPhone 11 is not going to come with a major redesign. Apple is going to continue with the same design language which it first debuted with the iPhone X in 2017 and it is only going to further build and tweak that. While the iPhone X/XS does not look outdated by any means, the continuation of the same design language is definitely going to disappoint a lot of customers.
